Gone are the days when cakes were just for blowing out candles on your special day. Le Gateau Bake Shops is one place that has taken it up a notch by creating edible, Instagrammable, artsy cakes.

Tanya Muller established this bake shop. Because of her, Le Gateau was named one of the “Best Wedding Cakes of 2023” by Rocky Mountain Bride. Their team even won the Food Network’s The Big Bake: Holiday. Now, that’s quite a feat!

I love how they have a click-and-collect service where you can choose from all their whimsical designs. They also create vegan and gluten-free cakes, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t celebrate with your health-conscious friends.

Thierry Chocolaterie Patisserie Cafe has received accolades like “Best Desserts” and “Best Pastries,” so you know they take their craft seriously. It’s the brainchild of Chef Thierry Busset, who has been mastering his craft in Michelin-starred restaurants.

They offer custom cake options, perfect for any celebration or just because it’s Tuesday and you’re craving one. I tried their chocolate ganache cake, which was the highlight of my party. It even had fresh berries, which got everyone fighting for a slice!

You should also try their handcrafted chocolate, like their dark chocolate truffle. It’s like a velvety hug for my taste buds. I also get a pack of their raspberry macarons. They’re always so flavorful and chewy.

3. Salty Sugar Patisserie

Salty Sugar Patisserie is a charming little boutique known for infusing tea into baked goods and treats. I once tried their lychee rose pastry, and it was like sipping tea while enjoying a pastry—pure magic!

They also have Blind Box Macarons. It’s an exciting dessert that my friends and I love. You’ll never know what flavors you’re going to get. On one occasion, I picked a matcha macaroon.

They offer cake tastings if you’re planning a wedding or other celebration. You can try all their cake flavors and even desserts and customize your cake to your liking!

Trafiq Cafe & Bakery is like a little slice of France in Vancouver. Its cozy and inviting interior draws me in. I always find myself in one of its corners with large windows, enjoying a good book and a delicious slice of cake.

They have one of the most unique cake flavors in town. For instance, chocolate lovers would gush over their Brooklyn Blackout cake. They also have the Homage to Earl Grey and Matcha cakes. It’s like drinking tea in cake form!

If you’re on the go, they have individual boxes for cake slices, so you can take them home and eat them whenever you’re craving cake. I always make sure to take home their mini Salted Caramel Cake.

5. Small Victory Bakery

Small Victory Bakery is a family-owned spot in Vancouver that’s snagged a slot in my dessert rotation. They create minimalist-looking treats that are packed in the flavor department.

They offer various cake options, such as rich chocolate cake and caramel cheesecake. They also offer customization options for cakes; you can get full-sized cakes during your celebrations.

It’s also a great spot to take a break from your day. It has a laid-back vibe, and I usually order their coffee, pair it with a slice of cake, and enjoy it with a friend.

6. Cadeaux Bakery

When you say Cadeaux Bakery, locals automatically think of its famous Tropical Cloud Cakes and other artistic treats. However, it’s also a trendy cafe combining industrial chic and a bright and airy atmosphere.

They have made-to-order cakes and other unique flavors. But if I had to pick my favorite, it would be their London Fog Cake. It’s light and moist, like a little cloud of dessert that my friends and I always fight for a forkful!

I love getting coffee, curling up with a good book, or catching up with friends at this place. The minimal seating makes it feel intimate, making every visit a personal affair.

7. Mon Paris Patisserie

Mon Paris Patisserie is my go-to place for French-inspired baked treats. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, like a quaint French cafe. There’s light chatter, and the smell of fresh pastries in the air will easily pull you in.

Their best-selling cake is the Passionata Bundt Cake. It’s a love letter to whoever you’re sharing or gifting this to! Besides the full-sized cakes and customization options, you can order a slice or two and try different flavors during your stay.

It’s also a great place to work or scroll through social media, with free Wi-Fi. You can take out freshly baked treats when you’re done, so you’ll never run out.

8. L’Atelier Patisserie

Contact details: +16043296153

Operating hours: 8 AM–5 PM

L’Atelier Patisserie is a charming French bakery that opened in 2015. A quaint patisserie inspires it in Provence, and it will welcome you to the smells of baked goodies in the air.

Their cakes are out of this world, starting with their Hazelnut Praline cake. They nailed the rich and indulgent hazelnut flavor but still feel light as a feather. They also have a Chocolate Raspberry cake if you want something refreshing yet sweet for your cake fix.

If you stop by during Christmas, you should order their Buche de Noel (Yule log). It’s the perfect cake to take home to your friends and family. In our place, it has become the official Christmas cake.

9. Buttermere Patisserie

Media credit: butter.mere

Website: http://buttermere.ca/

Address: 958 Main St, Vancouver, BC V6A 2W1, Canada

Pricing: $S

Buttermere Patisserie is a hidden gem that blends Parisian pastry techniques with some Asian flair. They create desserts that part-Asians like me can’t get enough of.

I felt like I was in a Parisian cafe with a twist when I walked in. The cafe’s soft palette and Asian decor are sprinkled throughout. It’s the perfect place to enjoy sweets or treat myself after a long, hard week.

My favorite cake from here is the cherry cake with tonka beans. I never knew tonka beans could add depth to the fruity cherry flavor, and I’d love this taste in a cake! They also have cakes during the mooncake festival, which I lined up for!

10. Broyé Cafe & Bakery

Media credit: broyecafe

Website: http://www.broyecafe.ca/

Address: 6414 Fraser St, Vancouver, BC V5W 3A4, Canada

Contact details: +16045583233

Operating hours: 9 AM–7 PM

Pricing: $

When you enter Broyé Cafe & Bakery, you’ll never think it’s a cafe or a bakery. It’s like a cozy forest with paper cranes hanging from the ceiling. But that’s not the only thing unique about them. They also put creative twists on traditional desserts and pastries.

Their standout menu item is the Japanese Matcha Souffle Cheesecake. It’s light and airy, with just the right amount of matcha. They also have mochi-inspired items like the Salted Cream Coffee Moissant and the Supreme Banh Mi Croissant.

If you want flavorful layers, try their Japanese Matcha Tiramisu. That’s delicious layers of cream, coffee, and matcha. And if you want something more unique here, try out their Purple Misu!
