When I was still a pre-teen, I could remember sitting in the passenger’s seat, pretending like I was driving the car. I remember telling my dad that I would buy a car as soon as I started working.
While I stayed true to my word, I also experienced endless hassles such as securing parking spots, paying for insurance, costly maintenance, and expensive gas prices.
But thanks to Vancouver’s car-sharing services, I don’t have to experience these troubles every day.
So if you want to go from point A to point B minus the hassle, continue reading as we give you a list of the car-sharing services we tried and loved in the city.

If you’re looking for a car-sharing service that offers flexibility and access to different types of vehicles then you should consider signing up at Modo.
What’s great about this car-sharing company is that both its mobile application and website are easy to use, making them a convenient option even for the less tech-savvy riders out there.
You can also prepare your budget by taking advantage of their trip calculator online. This will allow you to see the cost of daily drives and even oversized vehicles.
We loved that this car-sharing company has a wide selection of vehicles. You just have to sign up as a member and gain access to their complete fleet.
Once you’ve become a member, you can also take advantage of their lower hourly rate.
Aside from car-sharing, you can take advantage of their car rentals.
However, you need to return the car that you booked to the place you picked it up from. Additionally, you need to consider your travel time to and from the pickup or drop-off spot as those hours need to be included in the total rental hours.
Meanwhile, we’re quite impressed that this company maintains their fleet of vehicles very well. They make sure to check the unit for any trash or even dog hair, ensuring that all riders will enjoy a clean vehicle.
User-friendly mobile application and website
“I have been with Modo for 18 years and I love it!
I have several vehicles near my home, and a large van and a truck to move things around. Their mobile app is easy to use, and so are their websites (desktop and mobile). The only downside is that you have to return the car you booked to the place you picked it up from. So, for example, if you work an 8-hour shift in an office in the city, but live in the suburbs, you can’t just use the car to get to work, but you’ll be charged for the time it takes you to get to work, plus the time the car is parked in the city, plus the time it takes you to get back home, which can sometimes add up to a charge of 9, 10, or even 11 hours, and that’s in addition to the mileage charge. So Modo is great for shopping or meeting a friend for coffee, but not for driving to work or to a party where you’ll be drinking alcohol.”

Wide selection of vehicles
“Modo is, hands-downs, the very best car-sharing co-op. I’ve been a member now for over a decade and it’s been life-changing to have access to such a big and wide-ranging selection of vehicles. I have a member-owner plan, which means I access the fleet at a lower hourly rate, which has been so worth it. I use Modo for errands around town, and other small two-way and day trips. The app is easy to use, and the customer service is top notch.”

If you’re looking for a car-sharing service that offers flexible pick-up and drop-off then Evo Car Share is for you.
What’s great about this car-sharing company is that they also offer hybrid vehicles, perfect if you’re trying to lessen your environmental footprint.
Another thing that we loved about dealing with this car-sharing company is that they have live chat support, which is available 24/7.
We appreciated how well their customer support team walked us through our issues such as dead batteries or flat tires. Once they investigate these issues, they will clear your charges for the entire trip.
We just have our reservations when it comes to availability, especially in places with low foot traffic. You may need to go to the downtown area to book a car-sharing service.
Additionally, we experienced riding cars that were too dirty. While it’s mostly the fault of other ride-sharing members, we feel like the company should be more proactive in setting maintenance rules for their drivers.
On a lighter note, we commend these guys for reporting lost items, ensuring that the owners will be quickly notified. We even appreciated that they arranged the turnover of these lost items at the soonest possible time.
Responsive team
“This company gets an unfairly bad rep. When I accidentally lost my glasses in one of their cars, they were extremely quick to help me reach the car to retrieve them. Their phone service was absolutely on point and couldn’t be more responsive. They were exceptionally helpful. The rates are more or less fair what you get. If you only need to use a car sparingly (say once per week), then Evo is your go-to choice.”
John Ticknor, Google Review
Upfront cost
“Love this concept! Needed a car temporarily and Evo is the answer. The cost covers insurance, kilometres, AND gas! With gas being about $2.25/ltr this service can save you money. Highly recommend for those who don’t need a car every day but would like to have one on hand for a day trip or lots of errands. The application process was super easy and their customer service really sold me, and the ease of use via the app is crazy good. I cannot say enough good things about them. The car itself (Prius) is so nice to drive! While other car share companies have come and gone, I hope Evo is here to stay. Thanks for such an innovative and excellent service.”

Since 2010, Poparide has been offering car-sharing or carpooling services around Vancouver. This company has grown its members to over 1,000,000, ensuring that you’ll get connected to a driver easily.
We loved how easy it is to find available cars on the road, whether it’s in the downtown area or less popular spots around Vancouver.
Because of this, you can conveniently take advantage of this car-sharing service if you wish to go around the city without having to worry about parking.
We’re also impressed that they offer economical rides through their hybrid cars. If you’re not in a hurry, you can opt for this type of service instead so you can do your part in minimizing your carbon footprint.
It’s also great that you can schedule your ride ahead, allowing you to secure a car-sharing match before your expected departure.
Meanwhile, you can also register your cars at Poparide if you want to maximize your trip from one place to another. It’s pretty easy to navigate their mobile application too, which can be friendly even for less tech-savvy users.
However, their mobile application has a few issues due to software problems. Some customers need to refresh their mobile phones just to get the application to work properly again.
Good rates
“Very easy to use this App. I had experience as a passenger ( Ottawa – Montreal) and as a driver. Smart idea, good pricing, flexibility, plenty of choice. I Recommend this business.”

Reliable drivers
“A very reliable and, most importantly, useful platform for transporting people from point a to point b at an affordable price and fast. You should always pay attention to complete information about the driver or passenger since there may be unforeseen nuances… but in general, everything is wonderful!!”

Zipcar is another car-sharing provider in Vancouver that offers access to cars on-demand. Their cars are highly available in busier cities and campuses in Vancouver, making them a popular choice for students and working professionals.
If you’re a business owner, you can book this car-sharing service for your employees. Meanwhile, students can also take advantage of this carpooling service to save up on travel cost.
What we like about this car-sharing service is that they’re available 24/7. Even if you book past midnight, you don’t need to worry about securing a ride.
We’re also glad that they’re quick in responding to our queries. We loved that we were never put on hold as their client service team is always ready to extend their help to all their clients.
However, you should remember to return the car on time as you’ll be charged if you go beyond your time. To minimize your charge, it’s best to add extra minutes if you feel like you need more time for your ride.
On the other hand, we loved that the cars were kept clean after each ride. Moreover, the cars don’t smell like smoke, making it a good option if you’re bringing your kids with you.
Proactive customer service team
“Since signing up a few days ago I’ve gone into the office once, called a few times, and each for very different concerns. Every single time they were able to fix the problem, and not once was I put on hold or were there waiting times. Each person I talked to was so friendly (especially Mark!) and did their very best to help. I will admit I was beginning to have my doubts through some of my issues, but the excellent customer service really turned it around. Zipcar is living proof of how good customer service will work wonders for a company. Thank you!”

Smooth coordination
“I just had an amazing experience with the local office. Rental cars were sold out this week and I left my Zip Card back in the states. The office went above and beyond to get my a new card on the weekend so I could get to Whistler!”

If you’re looking for an affordable car-sharing option then you should consider availing Weeve’s services. It’s great that they have a wide range of vehicles that can accommodate individuals to big groups.
This company only carries highly maintained cars, ensuring the ride is as smooth as possible. Even better, the cars are kept clean after every use.
For drivers out there, we loved that they have upfront rates that already cover fuel and insurance. On top of that, we’re quite impressed that you don’t need to worry about roadside assistance as it’s already included in their pricing structure.
Meanwhile, we loved that this car-sharing company allows you to drop-off the vehicles in various zones across the city, making it a lot more convenient for those who opt for their one-way trips.
It’s also quite impressive that this car-sharing company carries a wide range of electric and hybrid vehicles, perfect for eco-conscious users.
However, we find it hard to book Weeve cars late at night. If you’re planning to have a night out, it’s probably best to find another car-sharing provider to avoid any inconvenience.
Additionally, we feel like their way of communication could still be improved, especially when addressing concerns related to the ride.
Excellent car conditions
“Excellent expérience! Great service and excellent car condition! Felt like VIP with Anthony!!”
