We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Whenever I’m on a roadtrip with my girlfriends, we always end up having our own little karaoke session in the car. And while we could scream our hearts out, we couldn’t belt out those high notes smoothly.

On our way home, one of us suggested trying out the best voice lessons in town. After all, what have we got to lose, right? I’m glad we did, because I honestly think I could be the next Ariana Grande.

So if you want to improve your singing skills and maybe try your luck on stage, continue reading this blog as we give you the best voice lessons we found in Vancouver today!

How much does a voice lesson cost in Vancouver?

Voice lessons in Vancouver may cost you around $53 per hour. You may check discounted rates and even trial lessons that some voice lesson centers offer around the city.

How we chose:

Instructor credentials: We assessed the teaching styles of the music teachers or voice instructors, allowing them to adapt to both beginners and professionals.
Personalized lessons: We checked if the voice lesson centers can teach different music genres. We also considered those who can accommodate various vocal ranges.
Studio environment: We included studios with a comfortable setting. We also assessed their sound acoustics, ensuring that students may concentrate with their practice, without being interfered by the outside noise.
Recitals: We included voice lesson centers that participate in local events or host recitals, allowing the students to showcase their talent.

For those of you who are looking for voice lessons that offer one-on-one and group sessions, then Taron Hall Vocal Studio is the place to go! Here, you can also opt for their online vocal lessons, perfect if you need to manage your time well.

We loved browsing their social media pages as they frequently share techniques on reaching high notes, signing tips, and other interactive videos such as singing while driving.

It has been our new version of podcast, so we’re always entertained (and learning) wherever we are.

We also find it very relatable that they choose new and trendy songs, sparking our interest to learn even more. There was even a time when they taught us to properly sing Popular, just like how Arianna sang it in Wicked.

We also suggest following their social media pages as they frequently post discounted deals so you can sign up for voice lessons without splurging. Last year, we were able to score a free 20-minute one-on-one lesson during New Year’s Eve!

And if you’re looking for a perfect gift, Taron Hall Vocal Studio also offers gift certificates. Just book it online so you can save yourself from a trip to the studio–unless you’re planning to go there anyway!

Pros

  • Provides interactive videos online
  • Offers discounted packages
  • Gift certificates can be booked online

Cons

  • More knowledgeable on modern genres
  • Limited lessons for more advanced singers

Creates different exercises to improve weaknesses

“Taron is a quality and skillful vocal teacher, and he sings well. He quickly understands my voice and puts together exercises not just to improve my weakness but also reinforce my strength. He has clear explanations with demonstrations which I always have good takeaway from each of his lessons. So far, I have 8 lessons 30-mins each week from Taron and it’s obvious that my singing got improved a lot. I surely will continue.”

Adapts to students’ needs

“I’ve been taking lessons with Taron for almost half a year now and, I have to say, he is a fantastic coach and teacher.  His teaching is focused, adaptable to the needs of the student, and he has a great space to work in. His laid-back approach really makes you feel comfortable to experiment and have fun as well!  I highly recommend Taron for anyone looking to improve their singing voice and gain a deeper understanding of the fundamentals and physiology of the human voice.”

You can reach out to Audacious Vocals if you’re already an experienced singer. If let’s say, you’re preparing for a theater audition, then you can be more confident doing it in this particular studio.

Here, Dorcas, the vocal coach, will guide you as you work on your breath control, and vocal tones. And if you’re a beginner, you’ll love that you’ll be able to determine your singing style in just two sessions!

We love how patient she is during each session. She even makes different types of practical exercises which helped us improve on our weaknesses.

She’s also very supportive. If you are or know someone who creates original songs, feel free to let Dorcas know—she will surely let you sing it, and even help you improve it!

For parents out there, enrolling your kids in voice lessons here would be a great idea. You don’t even have to ask for feedback as they would gladly provide you regular updates on your child’s progress.

They will also offer some advice and suggestions so you can help your kids practice at home. It’s a great initiative, especially if you want to inspire your children to become more passionate, creative, and confident.

And after just seven sessions, you’ll love that you can start noticing a significant amount of improvement.

Pros

  • Can accommodate advanced singers
  • Beginner-friendly voice lesson center
  • Encourages creativity
  • Great voice lesson center for kids

Cons

  • Only open four times a week
  • No evening classes

Tailor-fit singing exercises

“Dorcas is truly a vocal technician. She understands the functioning of the voice and tailors exercises that work for you. I can hear my voice freeing up and getting stronger as time progresses. On top of that, she’s a very caring and compassionate individual. Her presence makes me feel hopeful and confident in my vocal ability. Great investment!”

Voice instructor is passionate and non-intimidating

“It’s been a seriously incredible experience working with Dorcas.
She is knowledgable, encouraging, and passionate. I came to Dorcas as a singer-songwriter and performer, without any training. Dorcas has given me the tools and technique to really get to know my voice and to use it to its best potential. With Dorcas guidance, I have more flexibility to explore my writing and creativity. The more I learn and practice, the less vocal strain, fatigue, and fear I have. Each lesson feels like a “next step” and is filled with many “AHA” moments! I can’t thank or recommend Dorcas enough.”

Courtenay Ennis Vocal Studio has been a popular voice lesson center for professional singers and theater performers. And we knew why once we checked out their studio.

During our first visit, we were given a chance to talk to Courtenay, the owner and head vocal coach. He took the time to ask for our singing goals so he would know how to curate the program for us.

We liked that he backed up all his lessons with scientific studies, carefully explaining to us the different voice mechanisms. Don’t worry, he won’t bore you with all these details, as he’s known to be funny, keeping you entertained during this time.

We noticed that the lessons can be a little challenging as we progressed. But we were happy that we were able to discover more about our singing skills after each session.

There were times when we struggled to grasp a new technique. If this happens to you, Courtenay will immediately adjust his approach so you could understand the concept even better.

However, this voice lesson center only accommodates those who are 15 years and older. You may have to look for another provider for your younger kids.

And while they can gladly welcome beginners, Courtenay’s lessons are more suitable for people with a singing background.

Pros

  • Great voice lessons for professional singers and performers
  • Highly technical
  • Carefully explains different voice mechanisms

Cons

  • More suitable for people with prior singing experience
  • Focused on pop singing techniques

Provides constructive pointers

“Courtenay has completely changed the way I sing and the way I think about my voice. In just a few months, I am comfortably mixing in a pop style in which I’ve never before felt at home. Courtenay delivers constructive pointers in a way that is supportive and non-judgmental, and celebrates every win with you along the way. You’ll get a nugget or two to work with in the free intro lesson, as well, but the full regular lessons with him are worth every penny. Highly recommend for anyone looking to work on their pop technique!”

Dives deep into musical theories

“Courtenay is simply amazing! He patiently goes through the details with you to make sure the lesson you get is tailor made for you. He is very knowledgeable in singing, science and music. As he dives deep into theories and also biological facts to teach you the reason behind a certain way of singing, or the right way to prevent any damages to your vocal cords and make you sound good! All that with a wonderful personality; Respectful and professional, yet warm-hearted.”

Alida Vocal Studio is one of the voice lessons centers in Vancouver that can be tapped by beginners and professional singers around the city. Some of Alida’s clients have performed on TV shows, international singing contests, and festivals.

Aside from the in-person one-on-one coaching, this voice lesson center also offers online classes. So if you want to save a trip to their studio, or if you want to try them out first, we suggest getting their online one-on-one class instead.

We loved that Alida took the time to walk us through the other services they offer. During our visit, she mentioned that some artists would consult her expertise in determining the right set list to do in a show or concert.

Meanwhile, if you’re planning to audition, she can also create a program that could enhance your vocal techniques while building your vocal confidence.

Alida also told us that she offers voice lessons for clients during live concerts. So she was probably backstage during one of the concerts we recently attended.

She also offers her one-on-one services for recording artists who require a voice coach during their TV appearances.

However, securing an appointment could be a little harder, especially because Alida is expecting a huge volume of clients. The studio is also not available at night and on weekends, making it hard for students and working individuals to find a convenient time.

Pros

  • Can be tapped by beginners and professional singers
  • Offers online one-on-one classes
  • Tapped by artists during TV appearances or concerts

Cons

  • Deals with a high volume of clients
  • Can be busier when there’s an upcoming concert

Vocal exercises were spot-on

“My wife and I worked with Alida in preparing to sing for our wedding. It was my first time having private vocal lessons, having only done some choir singing in high school. Alida’s coaching, feedback, and the vocal exercises she gave were spot-on for what I needed to develop and prepare. It helped me sing with greater ease and confidence. We had tons of fun singing at our wedding. I heartily recommend taking lessons with her! :)”

Helps build confidence

“Alida has been so incredibly helpful both with her clear and actionable way of approaching technique and her relentless encouragement to be myself and put myself out there as a singer. When I started with her, I was having vocal problems as well as terrible stage fright and now I feel totally confident to take on anything that might seem hard at first. So much so that I just booked a national commercial where I had to sing some tough stuff a cappella and when the key was changed to be quite a bit higher during the session, I was able to take it in stride. Thanks so much Alida!!”

If you’re looking for a voice lesson center that will not only teach you the correct vocal techniques but will also guide your breath work, ear training, and even tension release.

Here, attending classes is also one way to improve your stage presence, especially if that has been one of your greatest fears.

Jill, owner and vocal coach, is one of the sweetest we’ve ever met. Her presence was never intimidating, and she would make you feel like you were in a safe space.

We loved how she took time to listen to us before she offered her suggestions. You’ll also love that her directions are easy to follow, allowing you to maximize your lesson time.

One of our colleagues attended her class and told us that Jill was able to point out singing techniques and mannerisms that need to be improved–something that no one has ever pointed out in her 15 years of attending voice lessons.

Meanwhile, if you can’t commit much of your time just yet, you may explore their mini masterclass. It’s like a singing bootcamp where you can jumpstart your singing journey..

Bonus part is that it’s on demand. This 5-day course will be sent to your registered email where you can just allot 15 minutes a day to discover your voice—anytime you want!

Pros

  • Provides on-demand mini-voice lessons
  • One-on-one courses
  • Improves technical aspects of singing
  • Very sweet, non-intimidating coach

Cons

  • Not available on weekends
  • More focused on teaching contemporary, jazz, and classical

Positive and supportive attitude

“I have only had two sessions with Jill and already I am singing more on pitch, with more confidence and with more power. Her positive, encouraging and supportive attitude is just what I need to help me grow as a singer. Thanks Jill!”

Penny Handford, Google Review

Fun environment

“Jill’s enthusiasm for teaching is unmatched. My singing lesson is truly the highlight of my week. Her studio provides a safe, supportive, and fun environment to explore and develop your voice.”
