Burnaby in 2025 completely stole my weekend—and my heart. What started as a simple plan to visit a park somehow turned into me wandering through historic streets at Burnaby Village Museum.

By the end of the trip, I was wondering why I hadn’t been spending all my weekends here. Somewhere between the vintage charm and jaw-dropping views, I realized Burnaby is like that friend who convinces you to stay “just one more hour.”

Burnaby Park is undoubtedly one of Greater Vancouver’s finest gems! With its breathtaking city views, lush greenery, and an array of scenic walking trails that wind through serene woodland, this park promises a refreshing escape into nature.

It’s the perfect spot for a family day out—lay down a picnic blanket under the shady trees, enjoy a leisurely meal, and then take a stroll to soak in the stunning mountain and lake vistas.

Don’t miss the fascinating poles, which are of Ainu origin (not First Nations). They provide a unique opportunity to explore cross-cultural artistry and compare distinct pole designs—a treat for history and art enthusiasts alike.

And if you’re in Burnaby, BC, Canada, make sure to visit the rose garden tucked behind the restaurant—it’s a quiet haven for nature lovers.

Take a left and head toward the small park building, which houses the washrooms. On the other side, cross a quaint bridge and follow the trail that gently ascends along the lake, offering a peaceful retreat from the beach.

And if you’re in the mood for more adventure, you can rent a boat and make a splash! It’s a fantastic spot to unwind, bond with loved ones, and embrace the beauty of nature.

3. Central Park

In the heart of the park, you’ll find two peaceful ponds, a playground for the little ones, restrooms, tennis courts, and a concession stand. 

Walking the entire park takes about an hour, making it a great spot for a leisurely escape.

It’s a serene and relaxing place to unwind, with plenty of wildlife to watch. Plus, the outdoor pool is a steal—just $1 after 6pm, and with free parking to boot!

You can also treat yourself to a coffee or a bite to eat at the cozy coffeehouse, or enjoy some nostalgic snacks at the popcorn station with a cup of hot chocolate.

For just $2.50 a ride, you can hop on the indoor carousel, which is a delightful experience for both kids and adults alike. A perfect mix of fun and history!

5. Burnaby Art Gallery

The gallery offers free admission, with a suggested $5 donation, making it an accessible and affordable cultural experience. With its rotating exhibitions, there’s always something fresh and inspiring to discover.

Best of all, its location right next to Deer Lake provides a stunning backdrop, blending art and nature into one unforgettable visit.

6. ISKCON Vancouver

ISKCON is a serene and beautifully maintained place of worship that radiates peace and devotion. The intricate deity decorations and the calm ambiance make it a perfect spot to sit, reflect, and offer your prayers.

Adjacent to the temple is another sacred site, so if time allows, you can easily visit both. During Hindu festivals, the temple serves delicious vegetarian meals as Prasad, free for everyone, adding a warm and welcoming touch to your experience.

For those craving more, the attached cafeteria, “Govindam,” offers a variety of vegetarian dishes. Just keep in mind that parking is limited, especially during festivals, so plan accordingly! 

7. Metropolis at Metrotown

Metropolis at Metrotown is a shopper’s paradise and one of the largest malls in the region. Whether you’re on the hunt for something specific or just looking for a fun day out, this mall has it all. 

Its spacious design and incredible variety of stores make it a one-stop destination, conveniently connected to transit and major cities.

With 330 stores ranging from big-name brands to mid-range retailers, you’ll find everything from fashion to tech, plus three major supermarkets—Canadian Superstore, Walmart, and T&T Supermarket—and Hudson’s Bay. 

When hunger strikes, head to the food court on the upper level or enjoy a sit-down meal at one of the many restaurants scattered throughout the mall. Shopping has never been this convenient—or exciting!

8. Burnaby Central Railway

The Burnaby Central Railway is a delightful experience that runs until Thanksgiving Day, with the last train departing at 4:30 PM. A single ride costs just $4.50, or you can snag 10 tokens for $40, which never expire—a great deal for repeat visits!

The train ride itself is a relaxing journey through a forested area, offering cool shade on hot summer days. However, if you’re visiting in the fall or early spring, be sure to dress warmly, as the ride can get a bit chilly.

The park is alive with charming mini trains chugging along, creating a whimsical atmosphere. There’s even a concession stand serving popcorn, hot dogs, cold drinks, and more to keep you fueled for the fun.

9. Barnet Marine Park

Barnet Marine Park is a sprawling, picturesque gem in Burnaby, perfect for a full day of relaxation and exploration. With its scenic trails winding along the coastline and an area dedicated to dogs, it’s a great spot for both leisure and adventure.

A highlight is the stunning walking bridge, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding waterways and trailways. 

The park’s location along a sea channel means you might catch a glimpse of guide boats assisting massive ships as they navigate the waters—an impressive sight!

You’ll find both sandy and rocky beaches here, so there’s something for everyone, whether you want to lounge or explore. Keep an eye out for passing trains, which add a bit of charm (and occasional noise) to the experience. 

The park is also teeming with wildlife, so remember to respect the environment and pack out any garbage to help preserve its beauty!

10. Fraser Foreshore Park

Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the outdoor circuit complete with chin-up bars and workout equipment, while dog owners can enjoy the designated off-leash area. 

For group gatherings, the large barbecue area offers ample space to set up activities and share delicious meals with friends. The park also boasts gorgeous, towering trees and numerous covered picnic spots for shade and comfort. 

There’s plenty of parking available, both in the lot and along nearby streets, but food options and transit access are limited—so plan ahead and bring your own snacks. It’s the perfect spot for a quiet day surrounded by nature.
