How We Chose the Best Staycation Places in Vancouver

Location & Accessibility: We considered staycation spots that are centrally located and easily accessible. We also included places that offer scenic views and a relaxing atmosphere.
Comfort & Amenities: A top-tier staycation should provide luxurious accommodations with high-end features. These include plush bedding, spa facilities, pools, and well-designed interiors for ultimate relaxation.
Dining: We looked for places that have an on-site restaurant, bar, and room service, or better yet, proximity to Vancouver’s renowned culinary scene.
Experiences: Having unique offerings is a plus. These include guided city tours, outdoor adventures, wellness programs, or exclusive events and experiences.
Customer Service: We chose places that offer exceptional hospitality with personalized service that ensure a seamless and enjoyable stay.
Value: We assessed the overall value of the staycation from the accommodation and service to the amenities, and whether the quality justifies the cost.

From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the beauty of the surrounding mountains and the peaceful ambiance. What we loved most was soaking in the soothing hot mineral spring pools, letting the warmth melt away all our stress.

Even though it’s right in the city, staying here gives you a refreshing new perspective, with spectacular views of False Creek and the Vancouver skyline.

The hotel has all the amenities needed for a fun and relaxing getaway, including a fitness center, sauna, jacuzzi, and even e-bike rentals – one of our favorite perks! We just noticed that some gym equipment is outdated and could use an upgrade.

Riding along the Vancouver Seawall (which is easily accessible from the hotel) is a fantastic way to explore the waterfront. You can check out cafes and markets around the area, too.

The rooms range from cozy suites to luxurious penthouses, with stunning waterfront views. Plus, pet owners will be happy to know that the hotel is pet-friendly!

Dining at the Dockside Restaurant was another highlight. Whether enjoying breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the combination of delicious food and panoramic water views made every meal memorable.

Another staycation gem within the city, Sylvia Hotel is a historic waterfront accommodation conveniently located just a few minutes from Downtown Vancouver.

What sets this hotel apart is its unique heritage charm. Originally built as an apartment block in 1913, the Sylvia Court building has since become a beloved landmark.

Adding to its character, the Boston ivy that now covers much of the building was planted by one of the first tenants after World War II. Fun fact – The Tilting Room, Vancouver’s first cocktail lounge, opened here in 1954.

The hotel offers 120 accommodations, including a variety of rooms and suites. We appreciate that the rates are more affordable than many other options in the area, making it a great value for a Vancouver getaway.

While it lacks certain modern amenities like a fitness center or jacuzzi, its prime location near Stanley Park and English Bay Beach more than makes up for it.

The hotel also boasts a lively dining and entertainment scene, with a cozy restaurant, a cocktail bar, happy hour specials, and live music. Plus, it’s pet-friendly, which is always a bonus!

One downside we noticed is that some of the rooms feel a bit outdated and could use renovations. However, if you’re looking for a charming, historic stay with an unbeatable location and character, the Sylvia Hotel is a fantastic choice.

Pros

  • Excellent location
  • Set in a charming heritage building
  • Affordable rates
  • Has a restaurant, cocktail bar, happy hour, and live music
  • Pet-friendly

Cons

  • Some rooms are a bit outdated
  • Amenities can be limited

My 3rd time staying at The Sylvia. Outstanding each time. Friendly staff, clean rooms, perfect location. The history of the building and the vintage of the fixtures, etc. contribute to a really great vibe. Highly recommended. – Conrad T., Google Reviews

Even though we live on the North Shore we have always loved this historic and charming hotel on English Bay. Recently, we felt the need for a nostalgic two day stay and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed our updated view corner suite with views of the bay, meals in the renovated restaurant and cocktail bar, and strolling along Stanley Park’s seawall. We will be back! – Gary Fulton, Google Reviews

If you’re looking to truly unwind and reconnect with nature, Nectar Yoga Retreat offers a peaceful and introspective escape on the picturesque Bowen Island.

What we love most is how easily accessible it is – less than an hour from central Vancouver, including a scenic 20-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay. With frequent ferries running from 5:50am to 10pm, getting to and from the island is hassle-free.

Once you step onto Bowen Island, it feels like a world away from the city. The retreat is surrounded by lush forests, creating a serene environment perfect for yoga, meditation, and relaxation.

Daily guided sessions help you reconnect with yourself, and the wholesome, plant-based meals are a refreshing break from everyday routines.

However, there are a couple of drawbacks to consider. One downside is that cell service and Wi-Fi can be spotty, which may be an issue if you need to stay connected.

Additionally, we heard that some teachers were a bit unprofessional and the classes could use some variety. They might’ve improved this from the last time we visited as we noticed more classes being offered.

That said, if you’re seeking a digital detox and a mindful escape in nature, Nectar Yoga Retreat is a wonderful choice.

Pros

  • Offers yoga retreat packages
  • Offers healthy plant-based meals
  • Tranquil and lush environment
  • Easily accessible from Vancouver via ferry

Cons

  • Spotty cell service  and internet
  • Some complaints about unprofessional teachers

On the lookout for a truly unique staycation experience near Vancouver? Well, Wildernest on Bowen Island is a must-book getaway!

This isn’t your typical accommodation – you’ll be staying in a beautifully reimagined 1971 Airstream, tucked away in a secluded 7-acre forested retreat. It’s the perfect spot for those craving solitude and a deep connection with nature.

Despite being surrounded by wilderness, modern comforts are readily available. The Airstream is equipped with heating, cooling, Wi-Fi, an outdoor shower and tub, plus a separate cabin that houses an indoor shower, toilet, and laundry area.

We love that breakfast is included, and for those who enjoy cooking, the kitchenette is fully stocked with essentials.

Beyond the cozy retreat itself, Bowen Island offers plenty to explore. You can hike the scenic Mount Gardner Trail for breathtaking panoramic views, take a leisurely stroll along Sandy Beach, or enjoy a relaxing paddle on Tunstall Bay.

That said, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Wildernest is not pet-friendly, so you’ll have to leave your furry friends at home. Also, because of its remote location, getting here requires a car, as public transportation options are limited.

Still, for those seeking a peaceful, off-the-grid getaway with all the comforts of home, Wildernest on Bowen Island is a magical escape worth experiencing!

Pros

  • Unique staycation experience
  • Peaceful, secluded location
  • Complete with convenience amenities
  • Near hiking trails and beaches

Cons

  • Doesn’t allow pets
  • Car recommended

Customer Reviews

This is hands down the best place we’ve ever stayed at. Bowen island is super easy to get to. Just take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay Terminal, no need to book as it runs at least every hour. The airstream itself is completely private. The hosts were amazing, everything we could possibly want was taken care of. The island was beautiful to explore and the airstream was a true work of craftsmanship and creativity. Highly recommend this place 🙂 – Adrienne Klaassen, Google Reviews

We’ve been traveling a lot all over the world, but I’m firm to declare it was the best AirBnB we’ve ever stayed. Starting from location, ending in smallest details and communication with the host – everything was at the highest level. Me and my husband had an anniversary and wanted to escape from the noise and crowds of Vancouver to a quiet, greenish place in a forest. That place was the perfect, ideal match! – Liliia Kuzmenko, Google Reviews
